Having tried oil-based make-up removers in the past, I have always hated the smell and the oil slick feeling they gave my skin afterwards, no matter if I second cleansed or not.
The Ordinary’s Squalane Cleanser (£5.50-£13.90) changed all that for me. My skin felt hydrated, not greasy, after using. It also removes all make-up, including waterproof, and is perfect as a first cleanse. As we know, a two-step cleansing routine after a heavy day of make-up is always a must!
Squalane is the product’s skin saviour. At one point it was on trend, but ignoring that, it’s actually a beneficial ingredient for the skin. It promotes hydration and potentially fights skin damage and free radicals. It has also been known to boost collagen production, meaning firmer skin.
To use, it’s best to warm the product in between the fingers to help the balm turn into an oil. After doing so, apply it to a dry face and massage well, and then rinse with warm water.
This isn’t a cleanser that I will use daily due to it being oil-based and my acne-prone skin not needing that sort of ingredient every day, but it is a great make-up remover and one that I will keep using for that reason only.
