REVIEWED: FRANK BODY DRY SHAMPOO & SERUM

If like me, your haircare has gone downhill since the first lockdown began, then you’re probably currently on the road to reversing that (which to many meant popping to their local hairdressers at the earliest they could). The upside is that I have stopped over washing and using damaging hot haircare on a near daily basis, hurrah.

As mentioned previously, one thing I have been doing less of is washing my hair. Well, I still wash it, obviously, but only around two times a week. Now that things seem to be returning to a somewhat normal, I want to be able to keep to my new hair washing routine, but still make it look like I’ve only just washed my hair, ya know?

Frank Body have released a new dry shampoo powder which I wrote about the other day. As a recap:

Dry Clean Volume Powder (£14.95) is the new must-have dry shampoo for those who care about the planet. Give it a shake and then tap it on your hand or roots, followed by a scalp massage without the need of an aerosol. No more accidentally getting it into your eyes, either!

To keep hair in tip-top shape, it’s best not to wash it every day. This is where the magic of this powder-based wonder comes in. After a couple of days or three, the natural hair oils seep through, but this product helps to soak up excess oil thanks to rice bran which is rich in vitamin E. It also calms an angry scalp.

Free from heavy metals, the nourishing ingredients also includes silica to deliver nutrients straight to the scalp, and hydrolysed keratin to help build healthy hair to reduce breakage and add shine.

I didn’t wash my hair for five days. I know, gross, but I wanted to test the powder on very oily hair. As a brunette, the powder was more obvious as I had to add extra due to needing more product because of leaving it for so long before washing. On the plus side, it did add volume which does create the effect of just washed hair.

Because of this outcome and the fact I would never normally leave washing my hair this long, I’ll test it again.

It was much, much better on 3 days worth of no washing. I am still struggling with hiding the fact I have powder in my roots (is there a special way to reduce this?), but over all it gave me an extra day to not have to wash my hair. Also, the product itself does smell wonderful and I swear when I wash it out my scalp just feels amazing as if it has been nourished.

Pros are the fact it’s much better for the environment being a non-spray bottle, and it includes some hair boosting ingredients. It does do the job, but as with all powders I have used before, it’s difficult with dark hair to remove the residue. Saying that, it isn’t mega noticeable and will be a handy thing to have on-the-go.

Now onto the serum. As previously mentioned:

Exfoliating Scalp Serum (£16.95) is the product you never knew you needed. Taking care of the scalp should be a number one priority. Doing so helps to promote healthy hair growth meaning stronger locks.

This vegan water-based serum includes lactic acid to help remove dead skin by breaking it down – so no need for that anti-dandruff shampoo. Prebiotic helps feed your hair with good bacteria, keeping the hair healthy. Along with hydrolyzed soy protein, it adds a double whammy with the prebiotic, strengthening hair and locking in moisture for beautiful locks. Lastly, witch hazel extract soothes an irritated and itchy scalp.

It can be left in the roots all day for a stronger treatment, or massaged on the scalp pre-shampoo and conditioner. Simple!

I love this. Why? Now, it might just be a mind thing, but my roots feel energised and my scalp is so smooth. I massaged it pre-shampoo and let it sit for a few moments whilst the ingredients got to work. After drying my hair, it was nice to put my fingers through the roots and take in the feeling of a refreshed scalp. Hopefully over time it will help my hair to become stronger – especially after years of hair dye and bleach!

Leaving the serum on for a whole day wasn’t as bad as I thought. I imagined a greasy mess but instead I barely noticed it. I massaged the product onto my scalp before putting my hair into a pony tail for the day, all whilst knowing my hair and scalp were getting some good ingredients – lots of probiotics and protein.

There are no cons for this one, though I am yet to see any results in full. As with all products, it takes time to see results, so patience is key!
