You may have guessed it already, but here at MODAN, we’re a fan of the fake tan rather than hitting the sunbed or spending hours catching the sun’s rays. It’s up to you, of course, what you do to get that tan. If you’re worried about your skin’s health but still want a tan, then faking it is the best way to go. Australian skincare brand Frank Body gave us the low down on the best way to prep the skin.
Exfoliate that body
Exfoliation helps to remove not only old tan, but dry dead skin that can make a tan look streaky. The best skin is smooth and free of flakes, because then application will be a lot easier and the results will be just what you’re after. Yay.
Try the Frank Body Original Coffee Scrub (£12.95) the day before you tan, letting the natural oils soak into the skin overnight.
Also remember to exfoliate your face
You’ll be adding the tan there too, and as we know, our facial skin isn’t always how we would like it to be. So gently buff away dry, rough patches with the Frank Body Original Face Scrub (£15.95).
Moisturise in the lead-up to tanning
During the days leading up to your tan, moisturise! Concentrate especially on areas such as elbows, hands, ankles and feet – the places prone to dry skin, basically. Doing so will help your self-tan session stick to your skin longer, hooray. The only time not to moisturise is on the day.
The Frank Body Perky Sculpting Body hydrator (£14.95) is just what you need to quench that thirsty skin. It also doubles up as a coffee (or tea) cup for when you’re finished with the product.
And then moisturise after
Keep your skin moisturised every morning and night to maintain that after holiday glow for as long as possible.
But what about removing body hair? Listen up!
If you like to remove body hair, do this at the very least 24 hours before a tan to give your pores a chance to close. Also, don’t wax/shave/laser after, otherwise you’ll end up with uneven patches and irritated skin.
Whatever you decide to do, enjoy the process. Fake tanning can be fun, if that’s your thing – and if it doesn’t go to plan? Try again another day.
