LOOKING FOR TIPS ON HOW TO APPLY A FAKE TAN? JULES VON HEP HAS THE ANSWERS

With pubs reopened and the summer finally here, it’s time to meet up with friends and enjoy, at long last, socialising. Many of us didn’t get enough sunshine last year, so perhaps you’re thinking about self-tanning to fake that glow because let’s face it, you’re probably not going to go on holiday abroad this year.

Thanks to Frank Body you know how to prep your skin for fake tan, but what about the application? Well, Jules Von Hep, Isle of paradise founder and celebrity tanning expert has got you covered. Follow these steps for even, glowing skin without the skin burn.

Never start at the feet

No matter what tan you use, be that mousse, water or serum, always start from the ankles and not the feet – these come last. Work your way up to the heart and chest.

Use sweeping motions for an even colour

You might want to use circular motions, but don’t! Using sweeping motions will help to distribute the product evenly for a more natural tan.

Tanning the back – you might need a wooden spoon

It might seem a faff to do the back yourself, but it can be done. Jules says to turn the tanning mitt backwards, so the foam sits behind the knuckles, and apply the product directly onto the skin, using the mitt to sweep from side to side. If this seems like you need to have spent years doing gymnastics, then a wooden spoon with the mitt attach to the end will work just as well – he’s tried it.

Tips and tricks of application at the end

With the product that is left on the mitt, use it to apply to hands and feet. Using a damp cloth or a make-up wipe, run it between fingers and over fingernails to remove excess colour. Also, to get rid of pesky tell-tale fake tan lines, hang a towel onto the back of a door and rub your wrists together.

Layering matters – and not just in winter

Apply two coats to the body and one to the face. An easy way to get the glow on your face and neck is to use an Isle of Paradise Day Dew mist, though remember, the more you apply the deeper the glow.

Can’t be bothered to wait for it to dry?

Using a hairdryer on a cool setting all over the body along with the Isle of Paradise Shape & Glow blending brush will help to buff and blend any tricky areas (think hands, feet, elbows and knees), as well as speed up the drying time.

And there you have it, one flawless tan!
